CONNECTing with West Point’s History

Did you know that West Point is the oldest continuously operated Army post in the United States?  Thomas Jefferson founded the United States Military Academy in 1802, but it was Alexander Hamilton who officially purchased it from General Stephen Moore of North Carolina for $11,085.  West Point was also known at the “Key to the Continent” by Revolutionary War General George Washington, and narrowly escaped the infamous betrayal of Benedict Arnold in September of 1780.  We thought there might be a great deal that CONNECT students did not know about West Point, so for four weeks in June we offered behind the scenes tours for our students.  Picked up by the West Point Association of Graduates Rockbound Highland Tour Program – they visited Trophy Point, got to go into the Cadet Mess Hall, and saw a bunch of special sites most don’t get to see when visiting USMA.  Thank you West Point AOG!  We learned some history and had fun!
